You’ve returned from Expo, a great time to connect with friends and meet new ones.  Hopefully, you’re also energized about your business—and maybe a bit tired from brain overload… or having a bit too much fun.  Whatever you do, don’t let allow that energy to dissipate!  Use it to your advantage to institute some real change in your business.  Whether you’re highly successful or just trying to get the ship righted, every company has things it can do to improve.

To implement change and see it through, you absolutely must stay motivated!  If you’re passionate about improvement, you can greatly help your team feel the same.  Here are the” 6 Steps to Staying Motivated for Change after Expo”:

  1. Write down your goals and keep them in a place where you will always see them.   And be sure your list has steps to achieving each goal.  It’s proven that change is much more likely to occur when steps to reaching that change are written down.  Take a few moments to write out a list of things you want to implement in your business; then keep it handy.  Review it every day in the morning.  Remind yourself of what you want to accomplish.  It will help you stay committed and enthused.
  2. Get your team fired up.  Remember that any goal that you want to accomplish will take some assistance from your team.  Have a companywide meeting and explain to them what you’re hoping to accomplish.  Specifically, explain how it will improve THEIR lives.  Get them onboard and excited and you can feed off of one another’s energy.  Consider having a team outing or get together at the end of this initial meeting to generate even more team unity.
  3. Keep a positive attitude even when you don’t want to.  Staying excited isn’t easy.  There’s a day-to-day grind when running a business.  However, you can’t allow your team to see you sweat or even worse—crack.  Go to work every day with a smile on your face and look at problems that arise as opportunities.  If you remain positive as the leader, your team will continue to follow the path you’ve provided.
  4. Look for help from outside resources.  To help yourself stay motivated, it’s okay to look for a performance enhancer!  In this case, we’re talking about motivational DVDs, CDs, podcasts, etc.  Think about how much time you sit in a car driving to and from work.  That’s the perfect time to listen to a reassuring message, which can lift your spirits and keep you pumped about your goals.
  5. Understand that you can change direction at any moment.  Having a rough day at the office?  Is there a certain employee who is being difficult?  Remind yourself that you ultimately are in charge of your emotions and motivation-level.  No one else can drag you down.  Always look for the positives that can be drawn from any situation.  Don’t allow one issue to ruin your day or cause you to be ineffective in your daily tasks.
  6. Revisit your goals with your team regularly—and keep them upbeat!  At least once a month, gather your team together to assess where you’re standing in regards to your goals.  Praise your team if they’re helping you get to where you want to go.  If you’re lagging behind, stay positive—but ask for suggestions on how everyone can improve their performances to attain that goal.  Finally, allow this monthly meeting to be a bonding experience.  Maybe it’s a companywide breakfast where everyone can sit and chat.  Maybe it’s a barbeque, and instead of taking calls after noon on a Friday, everyone has fun eating, playing yard games, and interacting.  If everyone stays positive, you’ll stay positive, and you’ll be surprised what your company can accomplish.
