Before Paul Gavic signed on to The Benjamin Franklin Plumbing system, his company in Minneapolis had no identity. “I had been running around with unmarked white trucks because I could never find a logo or an identity I really liked,” he explained. “I didn’t want to put something like ‘Joe’s Plumbing’ on the side of the truck in big black letters. It had to be cool looking, it had to be something that would catch somebody’s eye. And that’s what I found at Ben Franklin — an identity.”

For plumbing contractors considering a franchise, Gavic believes Benjamin Franklin is the way to go.

“Jim Abrams said that, in hard times, people always go to a brand they’re familiar with, that they can trust. I think that’s true,” said Gavic. “I think that’s been a big help for us in this economy. I think having an identity, a brand like Ben Franklin, has helped us weather that storm. In 2006, the business might have slipped back a little bit, but in all the other years I’ve grown my business when everybody else has been singing the blues.”

He says that, not only do franchisees receive proven systems and procedures to manage their businesses, they have access to a support staff — franchise business consultants — at Clockwork Home Services they can call at any time. These business consultants are specialized in different areas, such as marketing or budgets, so franchisees get the precise information they need to address a problem or concern in their companies.

Another perk with a Benjamin Franklin Plumbing franchise is potential national exposure. Benjamin Franklin, as well Clockwork franchises One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning and electrical contracting franchise Mister Sparky, are featured in the current season of Donald Trump’s “The Celebrity Apprentice.” Clockwork co-founders Abrams and John Young devised a celebrity challenge for a national audience of more than 8 million viewers.

“We have a whole media package from Clockwork that goes along with The Celebrity Apprentice appearance to use with our local media before, during and after the show,” said Gavic. “You’d never have that kind of positive opportunity working by yourself.”
