Help Customers Improve Efficiency And Save Money
January 5, 2010
Contractors should encourage customers to take advantage of tax breaks that could save them money when they make energy-efficient improvements to their homes.
Among those savings is a 30 percent tax credit of up to $1,500 for the purchase of highly efficient residential air conditioners, heat pumps or furnaces.
The credits are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Tax Act of 2009, which President Obama signed in February.
Qualifying products purchased between Feb. 17 and Dec. 31, 2010 are eligible for a tax credit equal to 30 percent of the product cost. The maximum amount of homeowner credit for all improvements combined (including roofing, insulation, HVAC, and water heaters) is $1,500 during 2009 and 2010.
